Chesapeake Clinical Services
Precise care grounded in evidence
Our story
Mental health treatment works best when it is built on a clear diagnostic foundation and a coherent plan. At Chesapeake Clinical Services, every clinical encounter is designed to yield that kind of clarity, from the first evaluation through ongoing care.
Chesapeake Clinical Services was established on the conviction that outpatient psychiatry in Maryland deserved the same diagnostic rigor applied in academic medical centers, made accessible in a private practice setting. The founding view was straightforward: adults seeking mental health care are best served by clinicians who read the research, reason carefully about diagnosis, and remain curious throughout treatment. That orientation has shaped every staffing decision and every clinical protocol since.
What we hold ourselves to
- Evidence over convention. when a treatment with a stronger empirical record exists, we pursue it rather than defaulting to whatever has always been done.
- Formulation before prescription. we do not reach for a prescription pad, a diagnosis code, or a therapy protocol before we have a coherent clinical picture of the person in front of us.
- Transparency about uncertainty. psychiatry has limits and contested terrain; we communicate those honestly rather than projecting false confidence to patients who deserve accurate information.
- Continuity as a clinical value. the relationship between a patient and a consistent clinician carries therapeutic weight; we structure our practice to protect it rather than treat it as incidental.
- Collaboration without hierarchy. the psychiatrist and the therapist work together as equals on shared cases, and the patient's own perspective is treated as clinically significant data, not a formality.
- Scope discipline. every clinician at this practice works within a well-defined scope, and we make referrals outward when a patient's needs exceed what outpatient care here can safely address.
Our clinical team
The clinical staff at Chesapeake Clinical Services includes board-certified psychiatrists and licensed psychotherapists credentialed at the independently practicing level in Maryland. We hold credentials to a consistent standard: psychiatrists completed accredited residency training and maintain active board certification; psychotherapists hold licensure at the highest independent level their discipline offers and demonstrate training in at least one evidence-based therapeutic modality. No clinician at this practice operates outside the scope their credentials define.
How we work
Diagnostic precision first
A treatment plan is only as sound as the diagnosis underlying it. We invest significant time in the initial psychiatric evaluation, gathering collateral history, reviewing prior records when available, and arriving at a formulation before any intervention is proposed.
Evidence-informed selections
Medication choices and psychotherapy modalities at this practice are anchored in peer-reviewed research and clinical practice guidelines. When the evidence base is mixed or evolving, we say so explicitly and factor that uncertainty into shared decision-making with the patient.
Clinician continuity
Frequent handoffs and rotating providers erode the therapeutic relationship and obscure longitudinal patterns in symptoms. Patients at Chesapeake Clinical Services are assigned to a consistent clinician, and that relationship is protected across the course of treatment.
Coordinated clinical team
Psychiatrists and psychotherapists at this practice communicate directly and regularly rather than operating as independent contractors who share a waiting room. When a patient carries both a prescriber and a therapist here, those two clinicians collaborate on formulation and track progress against shared benchmarks.
